Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! You won’t need a brain to tell you that “Wicked: For Good” is one of the most anticipated movies of  2025. With its main release date set for Nov. 21, much is expected from this upcoming movie.

While the movies themselves are new, Wicked itself has been around for quite some time. A movie based on a musical based on a book based on a movie based on a book, the long lineage of “Wicked” can be dated all the way back to “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, published in 1995. But there will be a few new additions to the movie that have never been seen before.

In the first movie, we see stereotypes broken and bonds formed between our two main characters, Elphaba and Glinda. With most of the story taking place at Shiz University, what started as a school rivalry slowly shapes into a lifelong friendship that is sure to bring many to tears.

Although friendship is one of the main themes, many underlying themes emerge of abuse of power and propaganda by the government, as well as prejudice against those whom we perceive as different. Elphaba, who has green skin, slowly finds her identity by breaking through the propaganda and prejudices in place, and by doing so, helps those around her begin to doubt the propaganda in place as well.

The movies keep all of the original songs from the musical “Wicked,” but “Wicked: For Good” has two new songs that they

are adding in. Both songs will be solo

ballads sung by the characters Glinda and Elphaba, played by actors Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

The songs titled “No Place Like Home,” sung by Elphaba, and “The Girl in the Bubble” sung by Glinda, are sure to bring the audience to tears. Both actors have hinted that these songs will give more emotional depth to their characters, helping the audience to form deeper connections with both Glinda and Elphaba.

These additions have fans sitting on the edge of their seats for the release of these new songs. There are also lots of high hopes for the songs already known and loved by the Wicked community.

With snippets from songs such as “No Good Deed” and “As Long As You’re Mine” being added into the trailers, viewers are already obsessed with the sneak-peaks and are not afraid to share their predictions of what is to come. With one big expectation being Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey, blowing us all away with a shirtless rendition of “As Long as You’re Mine” with Elphaba. The theaters are sure to be the most swankified place in town come Nov. 21, as fans gallinda-fy themselves for this festivating release.

Expect to be “Defying Gravity” and changed “For Good” after seeing this scandalacious sequel to the beloved “Wicked.”
