Everything has its time to go, and unfortunately, Wild Waves theme park is about to close. After nearly 50 years of operation, Wild Waves, a staple of summer entertainment in the Northwest, will be shutting down after this summer. The park plans to close after its last season of operation (May 23 to Nov 1).
The reason for its closure after all this time is due to operational costs that were not received during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a lack of funding being its main reason for closure. While the park has been a great experience for many people, its location being away from most cities and people that would like to go, along with limited opportunity for expansion because of its location just off of the freeway, also contributed to the park’s plan to shut down. Wild Waves, however, was not only a beloved theme park for the local community, it was also very beneficial to the local economy and job opportunities, with over 800 workers in the park.
For its future, Wild Waves hopes that its property will be transformed into something else that will also be beneficial to the community, which will probably end up being apartments. Since Wild Waves is closing soon, the park has planned special events and promotions, while also proming to honor all memberships and other deals people have been saving so they can still use them at the park.
For its final season, Wild Waves is planning an extra special year for its visitors, which will include “One Last Fright Fest,” an extra special scare event, and the “Festival de Olas Locas” (Crazy Waves Festival), which will celebrate the Hispanic community. Huge amounts of people are expected to show up for these final celebrations at Wild Waves, so if you want to go, get your tickets early!
Since Wild Waves has been a beloved park for its current operation time of about 49 years, people will probably be pretty excited to get back to the park before it closes, so expect the park to be absolutely packed in its final season with nostalgic adults, their kids, and tons of other people who want to see Wild Waves for one last hurrah.
