Replacement levies
Quick recap: last month, the Shoreline School District – with approval from the Board – put on the voters’ ballot two replacement tax levies.
The first was an Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Replacement Levy, which would help cover the cost of daily operation of the district. The second was a Replacement Capital Levy for Technology (which would help cover the cost of technology maintenance and online curriculum).
As of Feb. 27, 2026, both levies passed. The EP&O levy passed with 73% voting in favor, and the technology levy passed with 77% voting in favor.
Cell phone policy development
At the Feb. 7 Board Retreat, the School Board came up with an outline for the development of a district-wide personal electronics policy.
This included a plan for data collection, which will consist of a community survey, and potentially other methods such as focus groups (a diverse group of relevant people who come together for a guided discussion regarding a specific topic).
Later on in the process, a recommended policy will be brought to the Board during a future meeting, where they will discuss and make changes.
Several Board members and Student Reps expressed their desire for the new policy, once completed, to be put into effect at the beginning of next school year. They also expressed a desire for transparency between the District and the Shoreline community, and for proceedings not to take place quietly during summer break.
The details of the policy itself are still to be determined.
