Our section is nearly empty at pep assemblies, we always get picked last in class contests, the class of 2025 needs to be doing more.
The classes of ‘22, ‘23, and ‘24, were always super spirited. When students in these classes danced, yelled, jumped, or screamed, it would echo through the stadium. But for our class, even the people who try to bring the energy to pep assemblies seem like they want to take a nap.
However, it’s not just pep assemblies. Dress-up days feel empty and bland, our senior meetings have no one present, and overall, our class just seem sleepy.
But why are we like this? Could it be that we are finally done with high school after being there for four years? It could be due to our lack of attendance, classes being harder, or spending such a long time at high school.
When I first came to Shorewood, I was so amused and slightly jealous of the senior sections in years past because of the vibe they had. Everyone would dress up and go crazy at assemblies year-round, and truly deserved to win all of the competitions.
So why can’t we be like that? Not only that, a large portion of seniors skip the assemblies, and those who do are not mentally present. Even that can be explained by our readiness to leave. Another problem is how nonchalant some people are. Some seniors don’t want to seem like they care about being in high school so they don’t act like they do.
When we take into consideration that we have been at school for all four years, it makes sense that we are depressed. We want to leave.
That doesn’t have to be the case though. This is the time to do all of the things that you haven’t done before, find the place that you belong, and find your source of happiness. And if you can’t find that in high school, you can still find somewhere to express your passion because we need to have a class that cares.
Despite writing this article, I am still so ready for the day of graduation. I still fall into the category of tired seniors. For me, I’m so ready to leave that any high school event just seems mundane and pointless.
Now, being a small section and graduating sooner than the class of 2026, 2027, and 2028 isn’t enough of an excuse for us not to put more effort into assemblies and other school events. It’s our last year. None of these people are ever going to see us again. We need to put all the extra stressors away, release our inhibitions, and take our class to a whole new level. We can do this at graduation and any other events. We need to make people miss us. We need to jump, scream, and cheer.
Obviously if we do this at future events, we won’t be able to make a lasting impact but future senior classes can. If you’re a junior reading this, you can bring the hype the class of 2025 needed into the assemblies next school year. Take this article as a sign to win every assembly and put all that into senior year. I know we are exhausted but I don’t see why we refuse to have a good time. It’s our last year, so make it count.
