Every year, seniors turn their graduation outfits into a representation of themselves through their caps. The tradition carries on into the graduating class of 2025. There is no denying that graduation marks an undeniable turning point for the rest of our lives. It’s only fitting that we create a testament to our time, a reminder of where we were at the end of our childhood. The way people approach this differs widely, though. From the super complex and customized to a few simple designs on top.
On the super customized side of the spectrum, we have Rheyene Verduzco. They are widely customizing their cap, complete with little antennas hanging off. The design? Based on a character they have come up with. Among these original designs are characters from the popular cartoon Invader Zim that are proudly placed on their head. All of these designs on the cap are made with a combination of paint pens and paint. Goggles are attached to the top in a unique twist. The characters and ideas on the cap “represents their interests through high school, and have helped define them,” said Verduzco. There are, however, simpler ways to make a cap.
Ashley Sanders is customizing her cap as well, and although there are fewer bells and whistles, her cap will remain representative of her and her interests. She plans to add a Disney quote and a simple graphic with fabric paint. Quote caps are quite common, but still very impactful. Unlike other caps in this article, Sanders plans on decorating the cap as a way to focus on the future and the steps left to take.
Others may choose to make something representative of all of their time here, without pop culture references. One such person is Daxton Robertson, who drew a series of items representing both himself and people in the graduating class of 2025 who have influenced him over the last four years. The words “onto a new chapter” adorn the top, along with a purple hue.
There are countless ways to decorate your cap, and it’s difficult to cover all of them. So, Shorewood, keep an eye out for colorful caps and proudly displayed identities on June 9. Have fun and good luck, Shorewood class of 2025!
