The 2025-2026 musical season has just started in Seattle and it’s stacked with a number of amazing musicals at both The Paramount and Fifth Avenue. Here are a few musicals that you shouldn’t miss as they make their way through Seattle:
The Paramount
“Six” (May 6 – 11, 2025)
You may have heard the songs “Don’t Lose Your Head” and “All You Wanna Do” when they were incredibly popular throughout social media apps, but those two songs are from an amazing musical about female empowerment that has you captivated until the last minute. “Six” is a modern retelling of the six wives of Henry VIII. Throughout the musical comedy they battle over who suffered the most from their shared husband, while also reclaiming their identity away from him. It’s such a fun pop-styled musical, different from many of the other musicals around this time.
“& Juliet” (July 29 – Aug 3, 2025)
Another show about Romeo and Juliet may seem a bit repetitive, but this musical is so much more. Rather than the classic Romeo and Juliet tale, it flips the script on one of the greatest love stories. It’s about Juliet taking control of her own life and rewriting her story, hence the title. It was such a fun watch when I saw it, and one I will always recommend to people when they want to get more into musicals.
“Les Misérables” (April 7 – 19, 2026)
A story about sacrifice, redemption, and social injustice set in 19th-century France. Often described as an emotionally powerful story, following the life of ex-convict Jean Valjean. It primarily focuses on the lower classes of France as they navigate their way through society. The musical is sung through a pop opera that has thrilled many audiences around the world.
Phantom of the Opera (May 13 – 24, 2026)
“Phantom of the Opera” draws the musical style from French and German operas, a mix of classical and romantic styles. It follows the story of the Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House. He mentors Christine Daaé, a talented soprano. He helps her become a star and eventually becomes obsessed with her. I’ve heard that this musical is amazing and beautiful to see on stage.
Fifth Avenue
“Waitress” (March 11 – 30, 2025)
Based on the 2007 movie, “Waitress” is about Jenna, a waitress who also happens to be an expert pie maker in a small town Southern diner. She finds herself navigating through a marriage and an unexpected pregnancy. This is one of my favorite musicals partly because of the music, it’s such a fun musical to listen to.
“Parade” (April 16 – May 4, 2025)
Parade is such an unfamiliar musical to many, but based on what I’ve read, it seems like such a good musical. The TonyAward-winning musical follows the life of a man wrongly accused of murder. The true story about political injustice and racial tension. Many call it a beautiful and powerful story about love and hope against all odds. The musical score was written by Robert Brown, who also wrote the score for “The Last Five Years,” so if that’s also not a reason to go see this musical, I don’t know what is.
