So, you want to be known for having amazing style and fashion but don’t know where to start? Lucky for you, Shorewood is filled with amazing inspiration at every corner, with varieties of different styles to choose from. From eye-catching outfits to stylish fashion trends, Julia Nakayama, Rocio Caballero, and Erin Joy Cambronero share their fashion secrets to let you in on how to have a memorable impact on everyone that looks in your direction.
Julia Nakayama
Julia Nakayama, a junior, loves to dress based on inspiration she finds within Japanese culture through Pinterest, as well as her mom. “A lot of the clothes that I really enjoy are my mom’s old clothes,” said Nakayama. “She either got them in Japan in her teenage years or … when she first came to America.”
The Shoujo Girl style, which is known for its short skirts paired with fitted flared jeans, is one of the many Japanese styles that inspires Nakayama’s fashion. The Harajuku styles, which include colorful statement pieces and “cutesy” accessories also make their way into her wardrobe. Urban Outfitters, thrift stores, and Uniqlo are some of Nakayama’s favorite places to shop.
Erin Joy Cambronero
Erin Joy Cambronero, a senior, finds herself wearing Acubi fashion, which is a “minimalist” style from South Korea, as well as streetwear. “An iconic outfit of mine that I usually wear is baggy jeans, any type of going out top [and] either kitten heels or pointed flats,” said Cambronero. “I usually accessorize a lot… it has to be bulky jewelry and multiple necklaces.”
She is very inspired by her sister, as well as people she sees on Instagram who wear outfits she likes to go for. Online stores like Musinsa, Yesstyle, Memory Lane Park, and Lewkin, are some of Cambronero’s go-to places to shop.
Rocio Caballero
For Rocio Caballero, a sophomore, the 2010’s aesthetic inspires her the most, as well as her brother. Low-rise jeans, zip-ups, and Juicy Couture are some of Caballero’s favorite statement pieces for an outfit, along with second-hand fashion.
The most important part of having “good style,” however, is finding what works for you personally- not what works for someone else. “Individuality is important [for] style,” Caballero said. “That’s my main thing, is being myself.”
Second-hand shopping and online thrift stores, like Ebay and Depop, are great places to shop for unique clothes and accessories that will surely turn heads.
