After six years of elementary school, three of middle school, and another four years of high school. Many high schoolers want their last year of school to be as memorable and fun as possible. High schools like to accommodate their seniors and make sure their last year is enjoyable and unforgettable. One of the most highly anticipated ways to do this is by letting seniors decorate their parking spots.
There are a lot of traditions that high schools all across the United States, Shorewood included, like to participate in such as senior sunrise, senior sunset, senior nights, and much more. As much as Shorewood staff and the senior class are doing to make senior year one to remember, an addition of designated parking spots for seniors would help make students’ senior year.
At Shorewood, the seniors have come together as a class to have a memorable senior year. Some efforts have backfired for Shorewood seniors such as senior assassin which was very disheartening to say goodbye to for a lot of seniors. Shorewood has also brought back a lot of other events and activities though such as lip-dub and senior spree.
Once Shorewood senior students think they made it by finally getting off “sophomore street” and getting to park in the big parking lots their joy is quickly gone by the lack of available parking. As the end of the year approaches, parking spots quickly become harder to find. Students are found parking in handicapped, fire lanes, and in some dire cases on the grass. This is the one part of senior year that seniors dread. No one wants to be late to their classes.
Shorewood seniors deserve designated parking spots that they can use throughout the school year. Many other high schools already participate in the tradition, not only do they leave designated parking spots for seniors but they also let them take creative control by allowing seniors to paint their spots. Getting to paint senior parking spots is a way of leaving their mark when seniors leave. But it’s not just that; the students get to look at their creations every day and walk out of school with the knowledge that their spot will still be waiting for them in the morning.
Having a designated parking spot for seniors is also more effective for the school. Students know exactly where they’re going. They’re not going to waste their time driving around the parking lot and end up giving up and just parking in handicapped parking or fire lanes.
Adding designated parking spots is another reason students look forward to their senior year and remember it better. It gives them a sense of ease when coming into school knowing that they don’t have to compete with their peers for parking. Painting these designated spots is also a fun senior class activity that’s low maintenance and allows students to be more creative.
