Spring is approaching and that means it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sun with friends and family. From swimming to barbecuing to just going to the beach there are lots of things you can do outside in the sun. These activities are a great way to meet new people at the park or at the beach. Here’s a look into the best spring sports to play with friends.
Spikeball
Spikeball is a classic springtime activity that has become popularized over the last couple of years. It requires at least four people, a Spikeball net, and a ball. You can play with less people but it is more fun with four. Under the bright summer sun, Spikeball can become highly competitive very quickly. It is best to be played on a softer surface like grass or sand so you can go all out and dive. My favorite memories in the spring have been going to Golden Gardens and playing Spikeball until the sun goes down. Spikeball is the epitome of a great springtime activity.
Beach Volleyball
Volleyball is yet another great activity that you can play at the beach in the springtime. There is really no limit to the amount of people that can play at once. You can play with anywhere from four to 12 people. It is easy to find nets at any public beach like in Edmonds or in Seattle. Even if you’re just playing “keep up” without a net, it still makes for an enjoyable time with friends. It is just a great way to just get outdoors. Volleyball is a super fun, easy activity that you can play with anyone from friends to random strangers.
Pickleball
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport across the country. If you go to any court, you’ll probably see an older generation of players which keeps a lot of high school students from trying the sport. But Pickleball is a super fun, easy-to-learn, activity that anyone can play. Because of the wiffle ball, the pickleball travels at a much slower pace than similar sports like tennis and has a smaller court. It is super easy to learn and you can play either one versus one or two versus two. There are multiple places across Shoreline where you can play like Shoreview Park, Innis Arden, Hillwood Park, Shoreline Park, etc. Pickleball can become super competitive and is a great way to get outside with friends during the spring.
Mini Golf
Mini Golf is a classic springtime activity. This is yet another fun way to enjoy the sun in an active way. Although there aren’t any places right in Shoreline, there are many places just a short drive away that offer mini golf. One of the best things about mini golf is that it requires very little skill to play and allows for friendly competition among friends, however, one of the downsides is that it does require money and may be less accessible than the other activities I have discussed above. Overall, Mini Golf is a super fun way for friendly competition in the spring.
Paddle Boarding
What are summer/spring activities without getting in the water? Paddleboarding is a great spring time activity that you can do with friends in the water. Not only is it fun, but it also makes for good exercise. There are many places around Lake Washington where you can rent Paddle Boards but prices can be pretty pricey so be mindful. There are many games you can play with friends on the paddle board, or just go out on a calm paddle and enjoy the sun.
There are many sports/activities that you can do outside, under the sun, in the spring or summer time. So grab your friends and get outside to try these sports!!
