With the cloudiness, foggy forests, and rainy weather, Seattle is home to many different types of media. Seattle showcases an amazing number of shows, from dramas to sitcoms. Here are a few shows that I have enjoyed and are set right here in Seattle.
“Grey’s Anatomy”
“Grey’s Anatomy” is such a popular show, but I wouldn’t say it’s high up on my list of favorites. The show follows the story of Meredith Grey starting her residence at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. “Grey’s Anatomy” offers a wide range of emotions throughout the show as Meredith Grey finds who she is. Honestly, I did find myself enjoying the first couple of seasons of this show, but it went downhill from there. I feel like there’s so much going on in this show, and that’s the thing that sets me back from fully enjoying it. There was a point in my life where I was spending my time watching this, but as someone who can’t watch long shows without getting bored, this was just not for me. But, if you’re looking for something that has a wide variety of emotions or if you’re just purely bored, go for it.
I think this show has the ability to intrigue people into the next episode. I can definitely see what Shonda Rhimes, the creator, was trying to achieve with this show, but it’s not the best show she has produced. One of the biggest things I don’t understand about this show is how it’s still going on after 20 seasons. I would love to meet someone who has watched through this whole show and is excited for the next season to premiere. Even though I wouldn’t say it’s a favorite show of mine, I do believe that the first season is worth watching.
“Twin Peaks”
When reading the synopsis of this show, I was definitely intrigued. The story revolves around the murder of prom queen Laura Palmer in the small town of Twin Peaks, Washington, and follows this ensuing murder investigation led by Dale Cooper, an FBI agent. The only reason why I know that this show is based in Washington was purely the fact that I searched it up. But if I were to just stumble upon this show, I wouldn’t have guessed it to be in Washington, even though the resemblance is there. If you’re a big fan of murder mysteries, this show is definitely for you.
Even though it isn’t as good as say “Criminal Minds” or “Knives Out,” it is for sure worth watching. I would say there were times when I thought the plot was moving too slowly and dragging on, but it was exciting to see where it was going. It has you engaged from the minute it starts, from the weirdness and abundance of disasters that David Lynch, the creator, puts together. As one murder mystery show goes, you’re led to expect everyone to be the head of this crime and it was fun seeing this story get unsolved. Close to the end of season one, I would say this show was definitely on the list of strange TV shows that I’ve seen, but in a captivating way.
It took a turn from many other murder mystery shows and I often found myself not knowing at times what was happening. Even though this show probably isn’t among my favorites, I loved the direction that Lynch takes on the story of small-town Twin Peaks. It’s different from many others and has you fascinated and questioning till the very end.
“ICarly”
I surprisingly only started watching this show a couple of months ago and I genuinely really enjoy it. Though I hadn’t heard about it being based in Seattle until recently. As someone who enjoys the occasional sitcom, this show was really fun and intriguing. It follows the story of Carly creating her own internet show, turning her “normal” life upside down with the help from her friends Sam and Freddie. If you’re looking for something easy-going to watch with friends or family, this is a go-to show. Episodes aren’t too long and the show is exciting and creative at the very least. It includes a wide variety of different storylines and I think that’s what ultimately keeps you with the show. This is the type of show that you would pick up watching and end up binging the whole series.
“ICarly,” even though being based in Seattle, doesn’t show the city too much throughout the show. The Space Needle did appear in an episode when Carly, Sam, and Freddie were going on one of their adventures, but other than that, I have nothing else to work with. Anyway, this show was really fun to pick up watching again, the comedy that it offers makes it such an easy and fun watch.
“Station 19”
Another spin-off of the long-running show “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Station 19” follows a group of firefighters at the Seattle Fire Station. This show is humorous and fun to watch, but it’s not something I would spend all of my time on. If you’re a fan of “Grey’s Anatomy” and want a show taking a different approach on Seattle, you should totally watch it. I’m worried that since this show is a spin-off of “Grey’s Anatomy,” it’ll follow the similar pathway of having way too many seasons that aren’t needed. I can see that the creators of this show like having something to add onto, but it just seems so unnecessary.
While also being based in Seattle, a lot of “Station 19” was primarily filmed in Los Angeles. Though, it does have a bit more perspective on Seattle then “Grey’s Anatomy” does. This show was entertaining to watch and it was fun to see how this story was progressing.
