As 2024 starts to get underway, there are many notable artists planning to release new music. Some are established and popular artists and some are newer, less-known artists. There are a few which we haven’t heard from in a while, rock bands, and quite a few hip hop/R&B artists.
“Orquideas” Kali Uchis (Friday, Jan. 12)
Grammy-winning artist Kali Uchis released her 3rd album, “Red Moon in Venus,” less than nine months ago and seems eager to share more music announcing her most recent work, “Orquídeas.” In October, Uchis teased LP4, deliberately titled, “Orquídeas.” She revealed the track list with a photo of all the songs tattooed on her back. The teasers and clips that she has posted have taken place in a magical garden, with a very woozy and atmospheric vibe. The vocals are emphasized with a dreamy and fantastical laugh and also includes a language selection screen. When you select Espanol, the screen flashes “Orquideas.”
“Vultures” Kanye West x Ty Dolla $ign (Friday, Jan. 12, 19, 26)
A couple of the music industry’s biggest names plan to drop music sometime in January. Different sources say different things about the exact day, but this project has been pushed back and moved since October. Some think the reason for the delay is that Kid Cudi’s highly anticipated “Insano” was planned to be released on Jan 12 with Kali Uchis dropping the same day. Recently, West was dropped from his record label due to anti-semitic comments, and there were reports that the two were still looking for a distributor for their project. This album features many different artists including West’s oldest kid, North West. They released snippets, trying to have a preview at an exclusive party but it was quickly shut down by police. Fans are now speculating as to whether “Vultures” will arrive on 19 or 26 January.
“Saviores” Green Day (Friday, Jan. 19)
The well-known band, Green Day is set to release their 14th studio album on Jan 19. Green Day has won Grammys and been nominated 17 times since the Punk Rock band suddenly emerged more than 30 years ago. The project is intended to represent the “invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture, and legacy of the last 30-plus years” the band stated. It was recorded in Los Angeles, California, and London, England. Rob Cavallo, the man behind this piece, produced most of the music for “Saviores.” This is the first time Green Day and Cavello have collaborated since 2012. A few of the songs have been leaked and played in concert, including “One Eyed Bastard,” “The American Dream is killing me,” and “Look Ma, No Brains.” Famous songwriter Billy Joel also has a part in this, writing the song “The American Dream is killing me.” The band will set out on its stadium tour starting in May 2024. The tour will feature many other artists and groups, one of the most notable being The Smashing Pumpkins.
“Coming Home” Usher (Friday, Feb. 9, 2024)
Just two days ahead of his performance at the Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show, Usher is set to release “Coming Home,” his first solo project in more than eight years. It will feature Summer Walker, 21 Savage, H.E.R., Jungkook, and Latto, who are all very different and unique artists. Usher stated that he and his team put a lot of creativity and effort into the record, in order “to tell a story that is open to interpretation” and is expected to connect with all different people. The album is planned to be 20 songs long including four interludes. There is a wide range of producers working on this and all of them have their own style. Usher also said that the album is supposed to be a celebration of music and that the Super Bowl halftime show will be “a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before.”
“Underdressed at the Symphony” Faye Webster (March 1, 2024)
“Underdressed at the Symphony” is the name of Faye Webster’s lifelong band and was recorded and produced at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas. The project is supposed to delve into the realm of emotional intimacy and examine the conflict between desire and passion on one hand, and comfort, understanding, and platonic love on the other. Webster has gained popularity through social media apps like TikTok and has made a name for herself in the music industry. Some of her most notable songs so far are “Kingson,” “I Know You,” and “Right Side of my neck.” Webster’s ethereal vocals blend beautifully with Yachty’s unique voice on the track “Lego Ring.” Yachty and Faye work in a very unique way that not a lot of people would expect. In January 2024, Faye will set off to Australia, the UK, Ireland, and Europe for her tour.
