For four years prom is something that each grade looks forward to. A big dance at the end of your senior year to celebrate how far you’ve come. You’ve gotten through high school, congrats! Now here’s a party.
When you think about that party, that big dance thrown by the school, what do you picture? Some might see bright colors, a jaw-dropping theme, honestly something straight out of a cheesy Disney channel movie. Whatever you picture, there are many things involved in putting together a great dance. For example you have the decorations, catering, and the music. But one of the most notable parts of prom setup is the venue, without that you don’t really have a dance.
While not a necessity for throwing a great dance, a prom venue should be cool. Something that provides a great base to build from. For the past couple of years Shorewood has used the Edmonds Waterfront Center for their senior prom. Now, there isn’t anything notably wrong with this venue. But on that same note there isn’t anything incredibly special about it. Add that on to the fact that rumors of using the Seattle Aquarium or possibly the Seattle Art Museum as our venue were circulating, the Edmonds Waterfront Center comes off as pretty boring.
So it felt slightly disappointing to find out that the senior class would be following that same “tradition” of using the Edmonds Waterfront Center as their venue. There has been a lot of criticism going around about this choice and while that upset feeling is understandable it is also important to point out that there are probably variables in the decision that the general public was not made aware of. Whether or not the prom is held at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, it’s important to continue hoping that the prom will be a night to remember either way.
